Should I use brad nails or finishing nails for my baseboards?
I am installing MDF baseboards in my older home (1957) and I would like to know if I should rent a brad nailer gun and use brad nails OR if I should just use finishing nails and nail them in with a nail set?
Also, if I do use a brad nailer...do I need to find studs or can you pretty much shoot the brad nails into drywall and have the baseboards stick just fine? I know if I am going to do this with finishing nails then I will have to locate the studs first.

Brad nails are not long enough to reach the studs. You ll need to use a finish nail of at least 1 1/4" .. 1 1/2" is better.. Locating a stud isn t that hard.Star at an electrical box. This stud is supposed to be on the right of it in most cases.. Find the stud center by putting a nail in before you base on. Check it off the ground by at least 2" but not higher than the base of course.
Once found ,lay a tape measure out in the locked position and use the 16" markings on the tape to find studs. GL
