Something I bet you didn't know is that by doing a few things to your tile flooring it will make the room seem bigger and feel more spacious as well, did you? This is something that most people don't know about and that is why I want to tell you about it.
The problem that many people have with tile is that they look at the price before anything else and when you do this you overlook some of the most basic things. If you are like most people then you will look at the price of the tile at some point, my only advice is that you don't make the price the only reason you are buying the tile. Trust me, having great looking tile that makes your room look bigger will trump cheap tile any day.
Tips To Make A Room Look Larger
Use Bigger Tiles - One of the things that you probably already know about is using bigger tiles. The reason why you should use bigger tiles is because then you will have less lines and the less lines you have the bigger the room will look. If you asked for my recommendation as to the size of the tile I would recommend 16 inch tiles as the smallest ones to use.
White Grout - Using white grout will also be a big factor in how big the room looks. The nice thing about using white grout is that it goes good with any color. The reason you need to use white is because the lighter your floor looks, the bigger the room will look.
Small lines - Whenever I do tile in my homes or other peoples houses I will do small grout lines between the tiles. A lot of people like using bigger grout lines so they don't have to use as many tiles but I recommend using small lines because of what it does to the feel of a room. I would not go any larger than a 3/8 inch grout line but my favorite would be a 1/8 grout line. The reason I like this size is because it makes everything look nice and clean.
Diagonal lines - Recently a lot of tile installers are switching over to diagonal lines simply to make the room feel different but what you need to understand is that it feels different because the room seems bigger now. The nice thing about a diagonal line is that it will make people look at the floor as opposed to the small walls and that is why it feels a lot bigger. If you don't think this will work then just look at some floors that use this technique and the ask yourself how the room feels.
All it takes is a few of these tips to make your room look a lot bigger. Just remember that you have to buy the right floor tile as well and remember that sometimes buying the cheapest tile flooring does work just as well as the more expensive stuff.
