Did you know that over 36,000 people are injured every year due to faulty bunk bed design and usage? That number is growing each month because of improper construction.
After reading this article you'll learn exactly how you can prevent the most common mistakes made when creating a loft bunk bed. Additionally, you learn how to keep your family and friends safe if you are using loft bed plans. Making sure your new furniture is safe is well worth the few minutes it will take you to read this article.
Fatal Mistake #1: Thinking that you can do it alone, without any type of plan.
This is most likely the most frequent mistake made by professionals and amateurs alike. Either way the risk of injure and even death increases when you think you can "go it alone." If you are serious about keeping your family safe, make sure to do your research on finding the best, pre-made plans on the market. I'll save you the time by providing what I've found is the best (see the link at the end of this article).
Fatal Mistake #2: Using old, warped, or low quality wood/materials.
During the construction of your new loft bunk bed, making sure you have the best wood on the market will save you a lot of stress in the future. It will make your bunk more safe and sturdy for years into the future. Don't use old, "crappy" wood. This is a mistake that I've made personally. Additionally, find the best quality tools you'll need for the job.
Mistake Number Three: Not using the directions you found/purchased.
I've built several pieces of furniture and despite my high level of expertise and experience, I've found that projects go much smoother when I simply follow directions that someone has already tested. Why would I try to reinvent the wheel, when someone has already found the best way to do it. Again, it doesn't matter how well you follow the directions if you have a ineffective plan.
I suggest that you find a professional source of high quality plans to build your bunk bed, which will save you hours of time, hundreds of dollars (compared to buying a new bunk bed), and loads of energy.
Remember, lofted beds are one of the most dangerous types of furniture. If you avoid making the mistakes mentioned in this article your project will run smoothly.
